What are treatment estimates?
After the doctor provides a diagnosis, we'll offer you financial estimates before beginning any treatment. Our treatment coordinator is available to address any questions you might have about fees, dental procedures, or appointments. How do I know if it's a dental emergency?
Consider these key points: if your life is at risk, it's a medical emergency - call 911 or visit the ER. If your immediate oral health is threatened, such as a dislodged tooth, it's a dental emergency. If the issue significantly impacts your daily life and can't wait for a regular appointment, contact us during business hours (Monday-Thursday, 7:00am-3:00pm) for an emergency visit. For after-hours emergencies, email appointment@nicklesdental.com.What should I do if I knocked out my tooth?
If you've dislodged a tooth, gently rinse it under lukewarm water, holding it by the crown to preserve any attached gum tissue. Transport the tooth to our office in a sealed container filled with milk or salt water. Avoid using plain water as it may damage the tooth. What if I broke my tooth?
In case of a broken tooth, gather all the pieces you can find. Place them in a sealed container and bring them with you to your appointment. This will help us determine the best course of treatment. What should I do for pain or swelling?
To manage pain and discomfort before your visit, take an over-the-counter pain reliever. For effective pain relief, you can take 2 tablets of 200mg ibuprofen and 2 tablets of 500mg tylenol simultaneously. This combination provides pain relief comparable to morphine. Limit this to 4 doses within a 24-hour period, taken every 6 hours. What should I do if antibiotics are upsetting my stomach?
Stomach upset is a common side effect of antibiotics. To minimize this, take your antibiotics with food. If discomfort persists, consider using a probiotic supplement, available at most drugstores. My denture is rubbing and it hurts, what should I do?
If your dentures are causing sore spots, it's best to remove them and refrain from wearing them until you can come in for an adjustment. Contact our office to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.I just had a bone graft done and I am seeing little particles coming from the area what should I do?
It's normal to see small particles after a bone graft procedure, as we often use extra material to ensure complete filling of the socket. Avoid touching the sutures with your fingers, tongue, or any objects. Don't use a water pik until Dr. Nickles gives you clearance. If the sutures are intact, this isn't an emergency, but please call our office to inform us about it.I had an implant placed or a tooth extracted, how do I take care of the area?
Follow these steps for proper care: take all prescribed medications as directed, keep the surgical sites clean and free from food debris, use the prescribed mouth rinse twice daily, gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water after meals, and brush the area carefully with a soft toothbrush. How do I care for my dentures?
For the first 24 hours after surgery, keep your dentures in place. After this period, remove them between meals to rinse clean, and also rinse your mouth. Each night, soak your dentures in a cleaning solution and rinse your mouth before bed. In the morning, rinse your dentures and brush them with a soft toothbrush before inserting.
